Das Nest im Totenschädel

Ein Mörder war zum Strang verurteilt worden. Wie er oben am Galgen hinkommt, sieht er ein Nest in einem Totenschädel, worin sieben junge Vögel waren. Er wendet sich zu den Gerichtsherren und sagt: „Meine lieben Herren vom Gericht, ich will gern mein Leben lassen, wenn Ihr das Rätsel lösen könnt, das ich Euch aufgebe. Wenn Ihr es ratet, könnt Ihr mich in siedendem Öle braten, wo nicht, gebt Ihr mir meine Freiheit wieder". Die Gerichtsherren waren es zufrieden. Er sagte: „Hoch op klomm ech, Siewe ltdwecher fong ech. En dodeche Korpes Hong derber, Nu rot, dir Herren, allen drei." Da keiner das Rätsel lösen konnte, ward dem Verbrecher das Leben geschenkt. M. Der Hexentanz in Pötz zu Wormeldingen

Eines der ältesten Häuser von Wormeldingen ist das Pötzhaus; obwol nicht groß, hat dasselbe noch heute einen Flur, der gepflastert und breit genug ist, einem Wagen die Einfahrt zu gestatten. Hier in diesem Flur hielten die Hexen der Umgegend lange Zeit ihre nächtlichen Zusammenkünfte, tanzten, ritten auf einem Besenstiel, daß darob ein gräßlicher Lärm im Hanse entstand. uf seiner mitternächtlichen Runde zuweilen auch an den: Thore des alten spanischen Freistockes von Steinheim, der einst zu den Besitzungen des Klosters von Echternach gehörte.
